10 ways to keep your property safe when on holiday
When you are going on holiday, it is important to not only enjoy yourself, but to make sure you keep your property safe and secure while you are away.
With this in mind, we have listed our top tips to make sure your property remains safe while you are soaking up the sun.
- Be careful who you tell that you will be going away for any length of time.
- Don’t leave tell-tale signs that you are away, like letters or parcels left near the doors, or rubbish left out of signs indicating you are away from home.
- Remember to lock ALL of your doors & windows, as so many forget to use the window locks (even upstairs), do check that you have the correct locks fitted, as Insurance companies are always finding ways of NOT paying out.
- Have a neighbour, friend or security Company make random visits on your home, as potential professional Burglars do their homework!
- Have a professional hard-wired Intruder alarm (Not a DIY system) installed, and if you can afford it, typically £200 – 300 a year, have it monitored by licensed monitoring station with Police response if possible.
- Have lights indoors set on timers, as if you were at home.
- Don’t leave valuable items on display that can be seen through letter boxes or windows.
- Light up the outside of your property with affordable motion detection security lights, a burglar does not want to be seen or heard.
- If the budget allows have a CCTV system installed, which can be viewed from your mobile device 24/7.
- Lastly if you do have a Intruder Alarm, you will require a second key holder, especially with Police response, and speak to a licensed & fully insured local Security company, who will hold your keys (for a lot less than you think) and attend all alarm activations, false or not.
