Recent news kidnappings throughout this past year have had police work tirelessly to arrest the London gang, responsible for terrorising Mohamed Saroya, after viewing his rolex watch from a Snapchat video.
The gang, led by Fortune Lawson, tricked Mohamed with the discussion of cannabis, before kidnapping and torturing the man until a ransom was provided. In this blog we will be discussing the events during this attack, and how we can work towards preventing these attacks in the future.
The Events:
There were eight other accomplices in this attack, submitting Mohamed to excruciating torture for over eight hours, including multiple stabbings and pouring a boiling water and sugar mix onto his abdomen and groin area. After the torturing was finished and the ransom of money and his rolex was provided, Mohamed was set free – but severely injured.
Mohamed had to enter the hospital numerous times to recover from his physical injuries, however he will never recover physiologically from the brutal torture he faced. He also was not the only victim of these men, with two more victims, Halim Vladi and Ledio Ibrahimi subjected to assault, kidnapping and abuse.
On his second attack, Lawson struck again, kidnapping Ledio, after inviting him out to smoke cannabis together. This time, Lawson submitted Ledio to brutal torture, waterboarding him and threatening him with guns and knives. Luckily, when calling his friend about the ransom, his friend called the police, communicating with hostage negotiators unknown to the gang.
Overall, with the help of the police, all men involved were found and sentenced between 6-30 years for their involvement in these crimes.
